Cutting acrylic sheets properly requires the right tools and techniques to avoid cracking or chipping. Here’s a step-by-step guide depending on the tools available:

1. Scoring and Breaking (For Thin Sheets, ≤3mm)

Tools Needed: Utility knife (scoring knife), ruler, clamps

  1. Mark the cutting line with a pencil and a ruler.
  2. Place the acrylic sheet on a stable surface and clamp it down.
  3. Use the scoring knife to make deep cuts along the marked line (at least 5-10 passes).
  4. Align the cut line along the edge of a table and apply even pressure to snap the sheet along the scored line.

2. Jigsaw Cutting (For Curves and Shapes)

Tools Needed: Jigsaw, fine-tooth blade, clamps, masking tape

  1. Mark the cutting line.
  2. Apply masking tape over the cut line to reduce chipping.
  3. Clamp the sheet down securely.
  4. Use a jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade at medium speed.
  5. Cut smoothly, letting the tool do the work without forcing it.

3. Circular Saw Cutting (For Straight Cuts, Best for Thick Sheets)

Tools Needed: Circular saw, fine-tooth acrylic blade, clamps, safety gear

  1. Mark the cutting line.
  2. Secure the acrylic sheet to a stable surface.
  3. Use a circular saw with a carbide-tipped blade designed for plastics.
  4. Cut at a steady speed to prevent melting from friction.
  5. Let the blade cool between cuts if necessary.

4. Laser Cutting (For Precision and Intricate Designs)

Tools Needed: CO₂ laser cutter

  1. Set up the laser cutter with proper settings (power and speed depend on thickness).
  2. Upload the design file.
  3. Ensure good ventilation.
  4. The laser will create clean, polished edges
